The Help File
by Nick Montfort

The Help File is the only work of creative writing in the form of a Microsoft Help File we know of. The Help File comes on a floppy disc in a plastic envelope along with a text entitled “Getting Started.” When you install the Help File on your computer, you can read it to get help on a variety of non-computer-related topics. The Help File packet is numbered in an edition of 100. The packet is sold out.

The Help File is Windows-only, as Windows users need the most help. However, if you know what's good for you you will install WinHelpCGI and read it on a Linux box.

Or download Help.exe (a self-extracting archive of two files) by right-clicking on that link and selecting "Save Target As..."
  1. Run Help.exe to extract HelpFile.hlp and HelpFile.cnt to your desktop or whatever folder you desire.
  2. Double-click on HelpFile.hlp to start.

Does your boss need help? Consider installing the Help File on your office intranet.
